The school follows the National Curriculum for England, at Key Stages 1 and 2. Special attention is given to the core skills of Literacy, Numeracy, Science, and Computing. High quality and up-to-date commercial courses and teaching materials from the UK ensure progression and continuity.
Care is given to ensure each child is given work appropriate to their ability so that children of all abilities are both challenged and supported.
Malawi’s climate and the expansive school grounds offer ample opportunity for PE lessons and, by Key Stage 2, all children receive at least 2 hours of PE each week, which include swimming in the warmer months and skill-based activities throughout the year.
The School Day
The school day begins at 7:00 am and finishes at 12:30 pm on a Monday to Thursday and at 12:00 noon on a Friday.
There is one main break and the children bring a snack and drink, which they eat in class. The school encourages healthy food, such as fresh and dried fruit, sandwiches and nuts. Crisps, sweets, and fast-foods are best kept at home for treats.
Children who are staying for afternoon activities also bring their lunch to school.
Children are collected from the school car-park either when school finishes or at the end of their afternoon activity. These pick-up times are known in advance and we encourage parents to collect their children promptly and not leave them unattended until late in the afternoon.
Each class prepares an Assembly every term. These are usually based on topics covered in the Curriculum and are always highly entertaining and informative. The children love taking part and parents are invited to attend.
